MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS

Before Your Pet Boards with Us
For the well-being of all exotic pets except the smallest species, such as (canaries and finches) will be required to have had blood tests within the
past year. Smaller species of birds will be required to have a swab test to rule out common infections.
All birds, rodents, rabbits, guinea pigs, hedgehogs, sugar gliders, squirrels, reptiles, and amphibians must have had stool examination to
screen for parasites within the past year, and all ferrets will have to be current on vaccinations.
Since the results of blood and stool testing can take a few days to get back, please plan your pet’s check-up enough in advance of his/her
stay with us to ensure we receive the results on time. Please remember, the best way for us to keep your pet safe and healthy during their
stay is to make sure they’re healthy before they are checked in.
Canine
• All dogs must be neutered/spayed
• Rabies, 1 or 3 year
• Distemper/Parvo DHLPP 1 or 3 year
• Bordetella

Feline

Budgies, Cockatiels, Quakers, Conures Other Small to Medium Birds

• One-Time Chlamydia and PBFD test
Grey's, Cockatoo's, Macaws, Mealy's, pigeons, Crows, Doves Other Medium to Large Birds

· All birds less than two years of age must have a current polyoma vaccine;
Birds: In order for your bird to board with us, we require an up-to-date annual exam with a clean bill of health, avian annual exams
include a complete blood count and choana, crop, and fecal cytologies.
Your bird can have no changes in health since the last examination.
Small Mammals
• Yearly exam
• One-time fecal exam, then as required based on medical history*
Ferrets: In order for your ferret to board with us, we require a licensed veterinarian exam within the last year with a clean bill of health.
Your ferret must be current on all vaccinations, parasite-free on fecal testing, and have no changes in health since the last examination.
Rabbits: In order for your rabbit to board with us, we require a licensed veterinarian exam within the last year with a clean bill of health.
A fecal test with no parasites seen is also required, your rabbit can have no changes in health since the last examination.
Guinea Pigs: In order for your guinea pig to board with us, we require a licensed veterinarian exam within the last year with a clean bill of health. A fecal test with no parasites seen is also required, your guinea pig can have no changes in health since the last examination.
Chinchillas: In order for your chinchilla to board with us, we require a licensed veterinarian exam within the last year with a clean bill of health. A fecal test with no parasites seen is also required, your chinchilla can have no changes in health since the last examination.
Hedgehogs: In order for your hedgehog to board with us, we require a licensed veterinarian exam within the last year with a clean bill of health.
A fecal test with no parasites seen is also required, your hedgehog can have no changes in health since the last examination.
Sugar glider: In order for your sugar glider to board with us, we require a licensed veterinarian exam within the last year with a clean bill of
health. A fecal test with no parasites seen is also required, your sugar glider can have no changes in health since the last examination.
Squirrel: In order for your squirrel to board with us, we require a licensed veterinarian exam within the last year with a clean bill of health.
A fecal test with no parasites seen is also required, your squirrel can have no changes in health since the last examination.
Fancy Rats: In order for your fancy rat to board with us, we require a licensed veterinarian exam within the last year with a clean bill of health.
A fecal test with no parasites seen is also required, your fancy rat can have no changes in health since the last examination.
Gerbils: In order for your gerbil to board with us, we require a licensed veterinarian exam within the last year with a clean bill of health. A fecal test with no parasites seen is also required, your gerbil can have no changes in health since the last examination.
Hamsters: In order for your hamster to board with us, we require a licensed veterinarian exam within the last year with a clean bill of health.
A fecal test with no parasites seen is also required, your hamster can have no changes in health since the last examination.
Mice: In order for your mice to board with us, we require a licensed veterinarian exam within the last year with a clean bill of health.
A fecal test with no parasites seen is also required, your mice can have no changes in health since the last examination.
Degus: In order for your degu to board with us, we require a licensed veterinarian exam within the last year with a clean bill of health.
A fecal test with no parasites seen is also required, your degu can have no changes in health since the last examination.
Jirds: In order for your jird to board with us, we require a licensed veterinarian exam within the last year with a clean bill of health.
A fecal test with no parasites seen is also required, your jird can have no changes in health since the last examination.
Reptiles

Snakes/Lizards/turtles: In order for your snake, turtle or lizard to board with us, we require a licensed veterinarian exam within the
last year with a clean bill of health, a fecal test with no parasites seen is also required, your snake, lizard, turtle can have no changes
in health since the last examination.
Amphibians
• Yearly exam
• One time fecal exam, then as required based on medical history*
Toads/Water Lizards/Frogs: In order for your toad, water lizard, frog to board with us, we require a licensed veterinarian exam within
the last year with a clean bill of health, a fecal test with no parasites seen is also required, your toad, water lizard, frog can have no
changes in health since the last examination.
PLEASE NOTE: Depending on your pet’s individual health status and physical exam findings, if your pet is deemed unhealthy, we reserve the right to require that he or she reside in a veterinarian care medical boarding facility.
Once your pet is cleared for boarding, he or she will have access to our comfortable, clean, and spacious “home away from home cottages.”
* Medical history is based on exposure to other animals and environmental risks and may indicate that a pet will require more frequent
fecal tests.
All vaccination records must be from a licensed veterinarian. Additionally, we require that you maintain a year-round treatment
for ticks and fleas in order to protect our cottages from any contamination and thus protect all of the pets.
We recommend topical solutions such as Advantage and Frontline. These products are available over the counter or from your
veterinarian. We do not suggest collar prevention methods. Please talk to your veterinarian about your options and frequency of treatment. Pets with unwanted additional pests will be treated and fees charged to the owner.
